Robe a la Polonaise by ColeV Robe a la Polonaise by ColeV
18th century Robe a la Polonaise. Silk taffeta with silk gauze sleeve ruffles, lined with linen. All hand-sewn in 18th century style. The gathered trim has been roll-hemmed along all of the edges. Silk satin ribbons pull the skirt up and hook to small ribbon bows.
Popular style of the 1770s, not to be confused with gowns that have a Polonaised skirt.

this is a amazing piece of work. It is so well made and so beautiful it looks like a actual vintage gown from the 18th century. It looks like the Polonaise you can see at the metropolotian museunm of art in NYC. well done.

So gorgeous! It feels like a kind of risky color palette that really payed off! Did you choose the colors, or were you reconstructing an earlier garment?

Thank you! Many of the original fashion prints of Polonaises used a yellow/aqua combination, although not often so boldly. I did come across this portrait recently though: [link]
