Late 1770s style riding habit I recently finished. The main fashion fabric is pearl green worsted wool, lined with copper silk taffeta, trimmed with copper silk velvet. The waistcoat is the same silk taffeta. The buttons are a death head done with gilt silver thread (they will eventually tarnish even!). The habit shirt is light linen with detachable lace trim, cravat is linen as well. Mitts are wool/silk blend. All of the garments are completely hand-sewn in 18th century style. Patterning was done at a Burnley & Trowbridge workshop. The hat is wool felt with natural ostrich plumes and a silk bow where it cocks up on one side. There will be a very detailed inside and out on my blog soon I hope. If you would like any other shots on here, please ask!
Thank you! Oh goodness, I've had this around for more than eight months. I did the petticoat (3 hrs) and shirt (20 hrs) in January. I finally got back to the waistcoat (10 hrs) and coat (25 hrs) a couple weeks ago. The hat was a disastrous process, so I can't quantify that at all. My hands are still black with dye. All in all, I better find somewhere else to wear it to make it worth while!
This is so lovely! You are so patient to do everything by hand. Kudos to you, madam! How much fabric did you need for this outfit? I would love to make one in cornsilk blue velveteen eventually...

I originally got 7 yards, but I had more than a yard left (it was more than 60" wide though). Since the waistcoat is silk, it would probably have used some of that last chunk for a habit in ditto. Cornsilk blue sounds heavenly, I'm trying to hold that color out for a Regency habit....
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
